New Delhi: Putin was on the front seat in the Russia-Ukraine war till now. Russia was attacking Ukraine continuously. Ukraine was looking helpless in front of Russia. But now the tables have turned. Now Russia is on the backfoot. Ukraine is attacking from the front seat. Ukraine has now brought the war to an interesting turn. Ukraine, which was scared and frightened till now, has now started threatening Russia. Not only threatening, but also establishing its foothold on Russian soil like Angad’s feet. It is now constantly driving away Putin’s soldiers from Russian soil. Yes, Ukraine has now started grabbing Russian land. Putin’s tension is increasing due to this step of Ukraine.
In fact, Ukraine has captured as much land from Russia in a week as it took Putin a year to capture. Zelensky himself has made this claim. Zelensky has confirmed that the Ukrainian army is now attacking Russia by entering its Kursk region. Yes, since the last one week i.e. 6 August, Ukraine has been attacking Russia by entering its home. The Ukrainian army is advancing the war in the territory of the aggressors i.e. Putin. Russia itself had also admitted that about 1 thousand Ukrainian soldiers entered the Kursk region with tanks and armored vehicles. With this move of Ukraine, it is now becoming clear that Putin does not have strong control over the current situation.
Now Ukraine is attacking Russia
Ukrainian soldiers are continuously infiltrating Russian territories. This move of Ukraine has created panic in the Russian army. The Ukrainian army is continuously moving forward. Due to this, thousands of Russians have been forced to flee from their homes. The interesting thing here is that this infiltration of the Ukrainian army is the first entry of a foreign army into Russian territory since World War II. This move of Ukraine is a matter of great embarrassment for Russia and Putin. Although Russian President Vladimir Putin has vowed to drive out the enemy from Russian soil, Russian soldiers have not yet been able to stop the Ukrainian soldiers from advancing.
Ukraine created panic
In fact, the whole world was shocked when Ukrainian troops entered Russia’s Kursk region late last Tuesday night. This area is just north of the Ukrainian border. This intrusion by Ukraine is a sign of a major change in the strategy of Kiev (Ukraine’s capital). Till now the Ukrainian army has been attacking targets inside Russia with drones and missiles. But now it is attacking Russia by entering its home. Before this, Ukraine had never officially made a ground intrusion into Russia.
How much land did Ukraine grab from Russia?
Recently, Ukraine claimed that its army has captured about 1,000 square kilometers (386 square miles) of Russian territory. In terms of size, this occupation is equal to the Ukrainian land that Russia has occupied so far this year. According to the US-based Institute for the Study of War, Russia has so far occupied 1,175 square kilometers (453 square miles) of Ukraine. Still, this area is less than the 100,000 square kilometers or 18% of Ukraine’s total area taken by Russia since the conflict began in 2014.
Why did Ukraine suddenly change gears?
Now the question arises that why has Ukraine suddenly changed gears? The purpose of this attack by Ukraine is still a mystery. Whether this is Zelensky’s warning to Putin or a plan to do something bigger, it is still beyond understanding. However, it is believed that Ukraine wants to fulfill many purposes through this. First- to strengthen its hold in the war and boost the morale of its soldiers. Second- to divert Russia’s attention and humiliate Putin in the whole world. Ukraine wants to put pressure on Putin with this step. Ukraine wants Putin to be forced to make peace out of fear and return Ukraine’s land.
