In addition, women are more vulnerable to specific mental health conditions such as depression and stress due to biological factors, hormonal changes and life events such as pregnancy or menopause. Ignoring mental health can have a significant impact on women’s lives as well as their families and communities. By prioritising their mental health, women can lead happier and more fulfilling lives.”
Signs that indicate the need for mental health help in women:
Swati Dubey stresses that as a woman, it is important to consider seeking mental health help if you notice the following warning signs related to your physical or psychological health –
- Permanent sadness: Women who experience persistent sadness, hopelessness or feelings of worthlessness may need help recognising the intensity of their persistent mood swings and seeking appropriate care and support.
- Extreme mood swings: Rapid and noticeable mood changes, such as going from feeling “on top of yourself” to becoming extremely sad or irritable, may be a sign of underlying mental health problems.
- Experiencing anxiety: Uncontrollable feelings of fear and anxiety, especially about an event that is about to happen, accompanied by physical symptoms such as a rapid heartbeat or sweating, may demand professional attention.
- Appetite or sleep disturbances: Drastic changes in eating habits or sleep patterns, such as excessive hunger or insomnia, could be signs of mental health concerns.
