(Bloomberg)-The next class of 10 astronaut candidates of NASA includes more women than men for the first time in the history of the space agency over 60 years.
Six women and four men include engineers, scientists and former military personnel. In particular, there are former two SpaceX employees, including Anna Menon, who flew into the orbit in 2024 as part of the company’s Polaris Don Mission, including the first commercial spacewalk. Menon has also been elected the first astronaut candidate, who has already gone into class.
The new astronaut comes on the group board as NASA works to pursue its Artemis program to send humans back to the moon. NASA has said that the goal of the program is to learn how to maintain human appearance on the moon and those lessons should be used on Mars on future missions.
NASA is also running to return to the moon before reaching the lunar surface with its own astronauts.
