LONDON, — French fashion house Christian Dior paid tribute to Scotland in a catwalk show at a castle in Perthshire, incorporating tartan designs and thistle motifs into its Cruise 2025 collection.
Celebrities including Hollywood actresses Jennifer Lawrence and Anya Taylor-Joy gathered in the picturesque gardens of Drummond Castle in central Scotland on Monday for the show, where designer Maria Grazia Chiuri brought some punk style to kilts for a range of womenswear.
Models wore tartan asymmetric dresses, slashed and belted jackets, shorts and corsets, as well as argyle knits, capes and lace or velvet frocks, varying in length and shape.
Some of their designs featured fringe, embroidered thistle motifs, or a map of Scotland. Other designs were photographs of founding designer Christian Dior’s 1955 fashion presentation, which was held at the nearby Gleneagles Hotel.
Heavily layered bodices seemed to hint at Tudor style, while some of the short frocks resembled armour.
Chiuri cited a book about Mary, Queen of Scots, and her embroidery work as inspiration. Several words were embroidered in red on a white shirt tucked under a white corset, including “fierce”, “hysterical”, “emotional” and “bossy”.
Chiuri, who often works with female collaborators for shows, teamed up with Scottish designer Samantha McCoach of the brand Le Kilt for some of the creations.
The look was accessorized with chunky black boots, long black gloves, and pearl chokers.
“Scotland is an important reference in the fashion world and I wanted to interpret it in a different way,” Chiuri told fashion magazine Vogue before the show.
“For my generation, it’s connected to punk, but there’s also another way to get into it, and that’s through clothing.”
