Malegaon blast case accused and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sadhvi Pragya Thakur is one of the poorest Lok Sabha members of Parliament, according to an analysis by election watchdog Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).
Thakur, who was not given ticket by the saffron party for Lok Sabha elections 2024, has declared assets 4.4 lakh, ADR analysis said. She is the third poorest MP in the outgoing Parliament. Thakur won from Bhopal seat in Madhya Pradesh in 2019.
Thakur, an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, is often surrounded by controversies due to her statements. In 2019, in his first attempt, Thakur defeated veteran Congress leader Digvijay Singh by a margin of 3.65 lakh votes.

In his affidavit filed before the Lok Sabha elections 2019, Thakur had mentioned a silver-coated brick with Ram engraved on it. The BJP had then said that the brick was for the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, which was eventually inaugurated in January this year.
This time, former mayor Alok Sharma has been fielded in place of Thakur for the Lok Sabha elections.

At the age of 25, Murmu, a B.Tech graduate, had become the youngest Lok Sabha MP in 2019 by defeating two-time MP Ananth Nayak from the reserved Keonjhar seat in Odisha.
Interestingly, according to ADR analysis, all three of the poorest Lok Sabha MPs are women. This analysis was released on March 28, two days after Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that she could not take the risk of contesting the elections.
