NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar has objected to the idea of projecting a single individual as the chief ministerial face of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) for the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra. This comes at a time when the Shiv Sena (Shiv Sena) is insisting that party chief Uddhav Thackeray should be declared as the next CM face.
Pawar said, “Our alliance is our collective face. No single person can be our chief ministerial face. Collective leadership is our formula.” He further said, “Our three alliance partners will take a decision in this regard.”
He also said that all those who oppose Prime Minister Narendra Modi should fight unitedly and join the MVA.
“During the recently held Lok Sabha elections, the PWP (Bhartiya Kisan and Shramik Party), AAP and the Communist parties helped us. Though we are three partners in the MVA, we should include all these parties. All those who oppose Modi should be part of the MVA. Whatever decision has to be taken regarding the chief ministerial face will be taken through discussions and after taking everyone into confidence.”
It is important to have a CM face: Sanjay Raut
Meanwhile, Sanjay Raut on Saturday said how important it is for one person to be the leader in elections.
Raut cited the performance of the India Bloc and the absence of a prime ministerial face to buttress his point. “If the India Bloc had projected Rahul Gandhi as its prime ministerial face, we would have got 25-30 more seats… People should know who they are voting for. People voted for Indira Gandhi and Narendra Modi. They want to know the face. We have no differences on who should be our chief ministerial face. We are determined to fight the elections unitedly. We will win 175 to 180 assembly seats,” he said.
“Fighting elections in Maharashtra without a chief ministerial face will be dangerous for the MVA. Maharashtra has seen how Uddhav Thackeray handled the state, especially during the crucial period of Covid-19. People voted for the MVA because of Uddhav Thackeray’s popularity… A faceless alliance will not help us win the elections.”
