Days after he went missing from a naval ship, the parents of Indian Navy sailor Sahil Verma demanded a CBI inquiry into the case and sought intervention from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sahil Verma went missing from a naval ship on February 27 and the Indian Navy has launched a search operation to locate the sailor.
“In an unfortunate incident, Sahil Verma, Seaman II, has been reported missing at sea from an Indian Naval ship during deployment from 27 February 2024. The Navy immediately launched a massive search operation with ships and aircraft, which is still ongoing,” the Western Naval Command said in a post on Twitter.
Sahil Verma’s parents Subhash Chander and Rama Kumari, who live in Ghow Manhasan area of Jammu, do not know what happened to their son. He has raised the question that how can a soldier go missing from a ship on which CCTV cameras are installed.
“It is surprising that a soldier has gone missing from his naval ship and his whereabouts are not known,” he said. I have been told that the CCTV cameras installed on the ship did not detect anyone falling into the sea. Then where is my son?” Subhash Chander told news agency PTI.
“We want the government to hand over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a thorough investigation. He was on duty and is missing.”
Why did my son go missing?
Sahil Verma’s mother Rama Kumari asked how only her son went missing from the ship on which more than 400 people were aboard. “There were 400 people on board and only my son was missing,” he said. “My only prayers and demands are that my son comes back safe and sound,” he said.
The parents of the Navy sailor sought intervention from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. He said that he just wants his son to return home safely.
