This incident is not only of a family, but a picture of the big problem which is encountered in today’s time. Working children, elders who have settled abroad and elders often fall alone in their lives. Their physical care is done in some way, but the lack of mental and emotional care breaks them from within.
Why is mental and physical care important?
Elderly parents often struggle with many diseases, diabetes, blood pressure, heart problems or mental problems like dementia. If they do not get medicines and proper food on time, then the situation can be serious. Depression also becomes common due to loneliness. That is why the attention and timely care of children and relatives is very important.
Keep regular contacts – Talk to parents every day through phone, video calls or messages. This not only gives them emotional support, but you too are aware of their needs.
Connect with neighbors and relatives , Request a relative or neighbor living nearby to meet parents 1-2 times a week. This will help immediately in the state of emergency.
Pay attention to mental health – The mental health of the elderly can deteriorate in loneliness. Connect them to activities like hobby classes, yoga or bhajan troupe so that they remain socially active.
Elderly parents are root of society and family. Leaving them to withstand the tragedy of loneliness and illness is to turn away from our responsibilities. If we become alert in time and resort to technology and relationships, then such painful events can be stopped.
