Compared to petrol, CNG vehicles emit less harmful gases, due to which they are less harmful to the environment. At the same time, they provide more mileage than petrol, due to which they are also economical to run. However, when compared to petrol models, CNG vehicles are more expensive. Generally, CNG cars cost Rs 1-1.5 lakh more than their petrol models.

Cost more to make CNG car
Let us tell you that the initial cost of CNG cars is high. That means the cost of making them is higher for the company. A CNG car consists of high-pressure storage tank, filling nozzle, pressure regulator and pipes among other components. The CNG pipeline in the car is rustproof, which costs more to make. Along with this, some changes have to be made in the engine to run on CNG, such as stronger pistons and valves and changes in the fuel injection system. Due to these reasons the cost of the car increases.

Safety standards are better
More stringent safety standards are followed for CNG cars. Since CNG is a flammable gas, there is a risk of explosion in case of gas leakage in the CNG tank or any malfunction in the tank. Therefore, these tanks are made stronger and safer, which increases the cost.

Maintenance is also more
The car’s CNG kit requires regular servicing and maintenance. The replacement cost of their parts is also high. Apart from this, the number of trained mechanics for CNG cars is less, which may increase the cost of repair and maintenance.

It can be said that CNG cars give more mileage, but due to higher initial cost, better safety standards and lack of availability, CNG cars are sold at a higher price. However, due to better mileage and lower fuel costs, running CNG cars may prove to be worth the money in the long run.
