According to an MEA announcement on Wednesday, Gaurlangal Das, currently serving as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, has been appointed as the next messenger of India to the Republic of Korea. They are expected to play their new role soon.
The MEA said in a brief statement, “Mr. Gaurglal Das (IFS: 1999), is currently appointed as the next ambassador of India in the Republic of Korea in the Ministry.
Das, in his current role, has played an important role in the ongoing conversation between India and China to address a long -term deadlock in East Ladakh, which has affected bilateral relations since mid -2020. His strategic insight and diplomatic skills have been important in shaping India’s cautious attitude towards their northern neighbor.
Earlier, he served as Director General of India-Typep Association, India’s Representative Office in Taiwan, where he greatly strengthened bilateral relations. He also took over as Joint Secretary (America) in the Ministry of External Affairs, where he managed India’s strategic partnership with the United States, and served as a counselor (political) at the Indian Embassy in Washington, DC.
Additionally, he captured various roles within the Indian mission in Beijing, gaining adequate expertise in Chinese affairs. He Dr. During the tenure of Manmohan Singh, he also worked as Deputy Secretary, Foreign Affairs in the Prime Minister’s Office.

Born in Assam, Assam, Das is famous for both its diplomatic skills and educational achievements. He topped HSLC in 1991 and secured second place in Science Desto in HS in 1993. He graduated in Economics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi with respect and completed his postgraduate study in Economics at Delhi School of Economics.
He married Harsh Das, a senior officer in the Delhi government and daughter of a railway officer from Jharkhand. They have two children – a son in class 10 and a daughter in class 5, both are studying in Delhi. His brother, Hemanga Lal Das, is an engineer in the California office of Facebook.
