The retired IAS officer was part of Air India before privatisation.
Pradeep Singh Kharola is the Chairman and Managing Director of India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO).
On June 22, the central government removed National Testing Agency (NTA) Director General Subodh Kumar Singh amid allegations of paper leak in NEET and UGC-NET examinations. He has now been replaced by 1985 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Pradeep Singh Kharola as the new chief.
Pradeep Singh Kharola is the Chairman and Managing Director of India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) and has been given the charge of NTA till the appointment of a new director.
An official press release said, “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the following: Assignment of additional charge of the post of Director General, National Testing Agency, Ministry of Education to Shri Pradeep Singh Kharola, IAS.”
Earlier, the retired IAS officer was also a part of Air India before its privatisation. He was the Chairman and Managing Director of Air India. When the government was deciding to disinvest in the aviation company, he was put in charge of it. He has also served as the Managing Director of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC).
He is a 1985 batch IAS officer of Karnataka. He has also served as Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister of Karnataka in 2012-13. Pradeep Singh Kharola was the head of Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC) in Karnataka, where he raised funds from international institutions for building infrastructure in cities.
Not only this, he has also been the Joint Secretary of the National Administrative Reforms Commission. In his career, he has been a part of urban governance, urban public transport and policy-making. He is believed to be an expert in taking a company out of losses and making it profitable. The biggest proof of this is when he rescued Bangalore’s city bus service and Metropolitan Transport Corporation from huge losses and increased their profits.
He was awarded the National Award for e-Governance for his exceptional work in the field. He was also given the Prime Minister’s Outstanding Public Administration Award in 2013. Even though he has worked extensively in Karnataka, he hails from Uttarakhand. He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Indore University and post-graduation in Industrial Engineering from IIT Delhi and was a topper in the university. He also holds a Master’s degree in Development Management from the Asian Institute of Management in Manila, Philippines.
