The bill, seeking to change the interpretation of this historic agreement, was rejected by heavy votes last month.
The committee ruled that Haka could “scare” other MPs, so a week’s suspension for Maip-Kolk and other leaders of Te Pati Maori, Raviri Wetty and Debbie Nagareva-packer, 21-day suspension is recommended. The Maori party strongly criticized these recommendations and expressed them as “warning to all of us to come in line”. In a statement issued on Wednesday, using a Maori’s frame ‘Land people’, the party said, “When Tangata Venua opposed, the colonial powers reach the maximum punishment.” He also mentioned that these proposed punishment is one of the most rigorous punishment ever recommended by the Parliament of New Zealand.
