The famous star, who identifies as African American, was given a warm welcome when she arrived at the airport in a long black trenchcoat. Additionally, both Chalamet and Zendaya embraced local culture by wearing outfits by Korean designer Juun.J. However, fans were surprised when they noticed that in several promotional photos for Dune: Part 2 in Korea, Zendaya appeared to have a pale complexion, almost blending in with Chalamet, unlike the non-white photos.

Over time, fans have consistently spoken out against the practice of bleaching dark-skinned idols. This involves editing photos and videos to make their skin appear lighter, in line with industry beauty standards. So, it happened again, this time during the stars’ viral ‘Ejio’ moment, the internet failed to maintain peace.
“Even Zendaya isn’t safe from Koreans’ weird obsession with whitewashing,” one user unhappy with the whitewashing practice wrote on the Internet. Others said, Korean media is whitewashing Zendaya!! They will whitewash anyone and everyone…, “Zendaya is not getting away with whitewashing???????”, “Yall whitewashing Zendaya I can’t do it”, “Zendaya is getting whitewashed too Is.”
