New Delhi. On one hand, the middle class is crying about inflation in the country and on the other hand, it is buying vehicles extensively. In February alone, 20.29 lakh vehicles were sold across the country and people spent a lot of money. The Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) released the figures for February and said that along with cars, two-wheelers and commercial vehicles have also been sold heavily.
FADA President Manish Raj Singhania said that in February, retail sales of vehicles in the country increased by 13 percent on an annual basis due to strong purchases in all segments including passenger and two-wheelers. In the last month i.e. January 2024, a total of 20,29,541 vehicles were retailed whereas in the same period a year ago it was 17,94,866.
Car sales increased by 12 percent
There was a 12 percent jump in sales of passenger vehicles segment i.e. cars last month and people bought a total of 3,30,107 cars. In February, 2023 this number was 2,93,803. Singhania said, ‘The highest ever sales of passenger vehicles were recorded in the month of February. There has been a big jump in sales due to strategic offering of new products and increased availability of vehicles.

Not only cars, sales of two-wheelers also increased by 13 percent last month to 14,39,523. In the same period last year, this number was 12,71,073. The biggest reasons for the increase in sales of two-wheelers are the demand from rural areas, desire for premium models, wide product availability and interesting offers. Apart from this, factors like wedding season and better economic condition also contributed to this positive growth.
Autos, tractors and commercial vehicles were also sold well.
Retail sales of commercial vehicles increased to 88,367 in February, which is 5 percent more than the same month last year. Singhania said the segment witnessed growth despite constraints such as cash flow constraints and election-related procurement postponements, highlighting the sector’s resilience and gradual recovery. Retail sales of three-wheelers also increased by 24 percent last month to 94,918. Similarly, tractor sales have increased by 11 percent to 76,626.
