WhatsApp has once again banned millions of accounts. According to the company’s latest India Monthly report, the company banned more than 98 lakh accounts in India during June as part of its efforts to prevent the platform and prevent harmful activities. The report said that about 19.79 lakh accounts of these were actively banned before they received any complaint from users. Apart from banning accounts, WhatsApp also took action on complaints received from users in India.
During this month, the platform received 23,596 complaints, out of which action was taken against 1,001 accounts. These actions included banning accounts or reinstated already banned accounts after reviewing complaints.
WhatsApp said that the company’s misuse detection system works during account registration, during messaging and negative feedback such as user reports and blocks in three stages. The company further said that ‘prevention’ is its main focus, because preventing harmful activity, later is more effective than its detection.
Emphasizing its commitment to user safety, the platform said that the company uses end-to-end encryption, safety tools and dedicated teams to deal with misuse, misinformation and safety threats. The messaging platform said in the report that the company works closely with experts to promote cyber security and protect the election integrity.
These features are coming
Last month, messaging platform WhatsApp has introduced two new tools ‘status AIDS’ and ‘promoted channels’. According to WABETAINFO, status ads act like Instagram Story AD. Now, you can post a business account paid content, which will be seen in the status update of WhatsApp users.
These ads will appear between friends and family status updates, which will have a sponsored label so that people can easily identify them as advertising.
