All about tooth sensitivity: Many people avoid eating cold or hot things, because whenever they try to eat these things, they start feeling pain and tingling in their teeth. In colloquial language it is called the problem of feeling hot and cold. A large number of people seem to be troubled by this dental problem. To many people this appears to be a minor problem, but if this problem persists for a long time, it can become serious. In such a situation, if you are feeling difficulty in eating hot and cold things, then you must know some things about this problem. Today we will tell you what this dental problem is and what are its causes. We will also tell you how to get rid of this problem.
Dr. Santwana Payasi, dentist of Braces and Faces Multispeciality Dental Clinic, Mayur Vihar, New Delhi, told AyraNews24x7. The problem of feeling hot and cold in teeth is called tooth sensitivity. In this problem, people suddenly feel severe pain or tingling in teeth while eating cold, hot, sour or sweet food. This problem occurs when the enamel, the topmost layer of the teeth, wears away and the layer beneath it, dentin, becomes exposed. Dentin consists of small tubes, which are directly connected to the nerves of the teeth. These tubes transmit hot and cold sensations to the nerves and the problem of sensitivity starts. Sometimes this problem increases so much that people feel difficulty in eating and drinking even normal things.
Doctor Santwana said that there can be many reasons for tooth sensitivity. The most common cause is brushing too hard. Many people rub the brush too forcefully, which weakens the enamel, the topmost layer of their teeth. This exposes the dentin and causes sensitivity problems. Apart from this, injury to teeth, broken teeth, receding gums or gum diseases can also cause tooth sensitivity. Apart from this, use of acidic mouth wash, bleaching and excessive consumption of hot and cold foods can also cause problem of sensitivity in teeth. Usually people ignore tooth sensitivity, but doing so can increase their problems.
Now the question is what is the treatment of tooth sensitivity? On this, the dentist said that to treat tooth sensitivity, it is important to first know its exact cause. If someone has mild sensitivity, a sensitivity-free toothpaste can be used. This toothpaste is specially designed to cover dentin and help reduce pain. Apply this toothpaste on that area and leave it for a minute or two and then brush gently. This provides relief from sensitivity. Apart from this, fluoride gel is also helpful in strengthening the tooth enamel and covering the dentin. If the problem is serious, the dentist may recommend fillings or sealants.
Experts said that sometimes if there is infection or swelling in the nerves due to sensitivity, then root canal treatment (RCT) may also be required, in which the nerve of the tooth is completely removed and closed. To avoid tooth sensitivity, it is important to keep some things in mind. First of all, use a soft-bristle toothbrush and brush gently, so that the enamel of the teeth is not worn out. Apart from this, avoid acidic foods and acidic mouth wash, as they can damage the tooth enamel. Along with regularly cleaning teeth, taking care of gums is also important. If there is any kind of dental problem, then consult a dentist and get it checked.
