New Delhi: Priya, a resident of Netherlands, is looking for something in India. For 47 years, a truth has been hidden from her which has given her sleepless nights. Priya, who grew up in Goes, Netherlands, is a woman caught in the hassles of bureaucrats and the system, whose story brings tears to the eyes. Priya has spent the last 47 years of her life asking the question who she is. For the last two decades, she wants to know who gave birth to her… who is her biological mother. According to Priya’s assisting lawyer Anjali Pawar, this case could also be of child trafficking.
Priya was adopted by a Dutch couple in 1979 when she was two years old. They named her Irene Priya Cornelia Bruyn. The Times of India report says that she wants to know about her real parents but is unable to find out. Government officials have even told her that she should be thankful to God for the life she has today.
No documents, no records, how can the treatment be done…
Priya does not have the documents of her birth. Neither do she have the records related to adoption… She is a thalassemia patient and since she does not have any medical records, she is facing problems in her treatment. She has now approached the court in this matter.
Different officials and government agencies tell different stories. Some told him that he was the child of an unmarried mother, some said that his mother abandoned him due to mental illness. Some third said that his mother was left helpless due to the death of his father and hence abandoned him.

She was a victim of racism in the Netherlands because of her skin colour and today her son, who is 18 years old, is also struggling with his identity crisis. That is why she wants to reach her roots. Her own mother now feels that she has brought someone else’s child and now feels ashamed, whereas when she adopted Priya, she thought that she was giving a home to a child.
