Mythological story related to Holashtak

Hiranyakashipu had tortured Prahlad so much so that he would get scared and become his devotee instead of saffron Vishnu. But even after these tortures, Prahlad remained firm on his devotion.
Prahlad asked Holika for help
According to the scriptures, Holika was the sister of Hiranyakashyap. Holika was blessed with the boon that she would never burn in fire. In such a situation, Prahlad asked Holika for help. Holika sat in the fire with Prahlad in her lap, so that Prahlad would get burnt, and she would remain safe because of the boon given to her. By the grace of Lord Vishnu, Prahlad did not burn in that fire, but Holika got burnt to ashes in that fire. Let us tell you that all these incidents happened in just 8 days, that is why it is known as Holashtak. For this reason, auspicious and auspicious works are prohibited during Holashtak.
