Khaki Baba Dham. Just a short distance from the Mahuapatan intersection of Deoria district, there is a very calm and mysterious place on the banks of the small Gandak River – Khaki Baba’s hut. Not only does the villagers have deep faith in this hut over three hundred years old, but also devotees coming from far and wide consider it as a land of miracles. Located among the lush green forests, this hut remains the center of reverence and mystery. There are many amazing stories in the public about Khaki Baba. During the rainy season, when the small Gandak river was in spate, Khaki Baba used to walk on the surface of the water and move from one end to the other. Such stories are still heard with reverence among the people.

Peace to the distraught mind

Local devotee Rajkumar Gupta says that I have been associated with this holy place since childhood. I grew up listening to the stories of Baba’s miracles. Whenever the mind is distraught, it comes here and gets peace. The faith of thousands of devotees like Rajkumar is created in the soil here. There has been a big change in this holy place in the last few years. Under the leadership of Mishrahwa Baba, a grand Shiva temple, Ram Janaki Temple and Durga ji’s temple have been constructed near Khaki Baba’s hut. Under the direction of Baba, the region has been rejuvenated – the improvement, decoration and convenience have been seen to improve all three.

Soul cool

Gauri Devi of nearby village Pakwinar says that my daughter -in -law did not have children for many years. Asked an Ashtami. Water was offered in Khaki Baba’s court and the next year Kilkari echoed in our house. Since then, we definitely come here on Ashtami every year. Ram Avatar Mishra, who comes here on every Ashtami from Gorakhpur, says that I have seen many places across the country, but peace and energy like Khaki Baba’s hut is not found anywhere. It seems as if the soul gets cold. Those asking for vows do not return disappointed, this is Baba’s glory.

Glory far and wide

Every Ashtami has a fair on Khaki Baba’s hut. Devotees come from far and wide-wishing for a child, some health, and some for a job and marriage. Flowers, water and offerings are offered to Baba’s tomb. The atmosphere becomes devotional due to the echo of the bells, the sound of mantras and the faith of the devotees. Khaki Baba’s hut is not just a memory of a monk, but is a tradition that is alive even after 300 years under the leadership of saints like Mishrahwa Baba.
