The US space agency National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has released a stunning video of the Pencil Nebula. According to NASA Hubble, “The Pencil Nebula was formed by a star that exploded thousands of years ago and is just one part of the massive Vela supernova remnant.”
This image was taken by NASA and the Hubble Heritage Team. Launched in 1990, the Hubble Space Telescope transformed fundamental understanding of the universe, from determining the atmospheric composition of planets around other stars to discovering dark energy.

Talking about the Pencil Nebula, NASA says that it is located about 815 light-years away in the Vela constellation. They further said that the linear, narrow shape of the nebula has given it the nickname “Pencil Nebula”.

Furthermore, it added, “The shape also suggests that it is part of a supernova shock wave that recently struck the region of dense gas, causing the Pencil Nebula to shine.”
