Pope John Paul i: Albino Luchiani was born on 17 October 1912 into an ordinary family in the Veto region of Northern Italy. He was later known as Pope John Paul I. Albino Luchiani was rich in simple personality. Luchiani, son of a brick kiln laborer, decided to become a pastor in 1935. Gradually, he became the cardinal of Venice while progressing. Luchiani Pope was elected in 1978. However, many people expressed surprise when Luchiani became the Pope. Because his candidature was not taken very seriously. Luchiani chose his name John Paul in honor of his two predecessor Pope, John XXIII and Paul VI. The Italian people knew him as ‘Il Papa del Soriso’ (Smiling Pope) and ‘Il Soriso de Dio’ (Smile of God).

After becoming the Pope, he took a historic decision. He turned down the traditional coronation for the Pope. Instead, he opted for a simple ceremony in which the general public could also attend. This decision was about to show his humility. Pope John Paul was the first person who won the hearts of people with his simplicity and humanity. On August 26, 1978, he led the Vatican for only 33 days after being elected as the Pope. His sudden death stunned not only the Catholic community but the whole world. Questions raised about his death remain the subject of discussion even today. We will try to understand why Pope John Paul I’s death is considered suspicious. Which factor is responsible for this?

Voice against corruption
Pope John Paul I’s brief tenure is known for his simplicity and ability to connect people. He presented complex religious concepts in his speeches in a simple way. Because of this, he became popular among the common people. His style was completely different from the traditional formal atmosphere of the Vatican. Along with this, he raised his voice against corruption. Pope John Paul I spoke of improving the institutions of Vatican, especially in the banking sector and the institutions of Vatican.

How did he die?
On the night of 28 September 1978, Pope John Paul I were found dead in his bedroom. Vatican officially claimed that he died of heart attack. However, with this announcement many discrepancies came out which gave rise to doubt. The Vatican initially said that the Pope’s body was first seen by his personal secretary, or a male pastor. Later it became clear that in fact two nuns saw his body. The Vatican tried to hide this fact. Because at that time it was considered unusual that women should enter the private room of the Pope.

What did the doubt arise
The Pope’s body was preserved in a hurry, which many people consider suspicious. In a 1984 book ‘In Gods Name’, David Yalop’s 1984 book, claimed that the process of preserving the body was started at 5:30 am, which was usually very early. In general, blood or viscera samples are taken from the corpse. But this did not happen in this matter. It was feared that a toxic substance could have been the cause of his death. But due to this haste, such investigation could not be done. Vatican also said that his body was not tested. He argued that his body is not usually tested after the Pope’s death. However, the bodies of the Pope have been tested several times in history. It was necessary to do this in case of such unusual death. All these things deepened the doubt in the minds of the people.

What was the Vatican Bank Connection
The death of Pope John Paul I is also associated with the Vatican Bank. This bank is formally known as the Institute for Works of Religion. At that time the Vatican Bank was implicated in a big financial scam. It also included a prominent Italian bank Banko Ambrosiano. The Vatican Bank had large shares in Banko Ambrosiano. This bank was headed by Roberto Kalvi, who was known as ‘Gods Bankers’. Kalvi died in London in 1982 under mysterious circumstances. Archbishop Paul Marcincus was the then head of the Vatican Bank. He was also involved in this scam.

Plan to expose corruption
David Yalop claimed in his book that Pope John Paul I had planned to highlight the corruption prevailing in the Vatican Bank. According to Yalop, Pope John Paul I was given some information related to it. On the day of his death i.e. on September 28, he advised the cardinal gene-maari Willot to transfer the employees. David Yalop believes that Marsincus, Wilot and other influential persons conspired to kill the Pope. Because the Pope’s plans were becoming a threat to them. According to David Yalop, people associated with the mafia were also involved in this conspiracy.

Who claimed and what claimed
In the 2019 published in ‘Wohen the Bullet Hits the Bone’, Anthony Raymondi claimed that he mixed the Valium in his tea to faint the Pope with the help of his cousin Archbishop Marsinkus and then murdered him with Cyanide. Raymondi said that the Pope was threatening to highlight a big fraud. However, no concrete evidence of this claim was found. One of the reasons for his death is also said to be religious prediction. The Vatican has repeatedly rejected these conspiracies.

Chest pain occurred for some time due to death
In 2017, journalist Stephania Palaska claimed in his book ‘Pope Luchiani-Cronical of a Death’ that Pope John Paul I had complained of chest pain a few hours before his death. But he refused to call the doctor. Palaska concluded the Vatican Archives documents and evidence that his death was natural. State Secretary of the Vatican Cardinal Pitro Parolin also called these things as ‘promotional garbage’. He said that it was a natural death. But Vatican’s early contradictory rhetoric and lack of transparency gave rise to doubt in the minds of the people. That is why Pope John Paul I’s death remains a mystery even today.
