It is surprising how much time a human spends in sleep, yet many of us wake up with hardness in the neck or back and hurts. Thanks to our gold posture, who is slowly wearing spinal health.
“The way you sleep can actually make your joint pain worse,” Dr. Dushyant Chouchan, orthopedic and sports injury surgeon, AMS Raipur warned.
In an Instagram post, the doctor shared how sleep condition affects joint pain and offer some minor tweaks for everyday sleep habits that can help you feel fresh and free from neck and back pain.
Here’s how simple twics can help you achieve the best sleeping position:
For side sleepers, Dr. Dushyant said that keeping a pillow between the knees is the optimal way to achieve pain-free sleep. “If you usually sleep on your side, placing a pillow between your knees can reduce discomfort in your hips and lower body.”
For those who sleep on their back, the orthopedic surgeon said that it is best to have a pillow below their knees. “This simple adjustment helps to remove your spine and pressure on joints, which reduces pain in the lower back and hips.”
“By including these two easy sleeping conditions in your night routine, you can prevent unnecessary stress and experience noticeable relief in your joints,” Dr. Dushyant said in Instagram Reel.
He suggested that his followers tried these tweex for themselves to see changes in the morning. “… you can find a daily reality waking up less rigid and more comfortable,” he said.
Director of Spine Services at CK Birla Hospital, Gurugram, Dr. Arun Bhanot also echoed a similar feeling, saying, “Your sleeping condition helps to reduce stress, avoid hardness and maintain proper spine alignment.”
In an earlier interview with HT lifestyleDr. Bhanot recommended a firm-to-maidium mattress and a pillow that aligns the neck. He advised to use sleeping on the stomach or using too much pillow.
