’90 percent of my food is steamed, boiled’
Last year, in April, in an interview with Star Sports, Virat had revealed about his strict diet plan which he follows to stay on top of his game. “90 percent of my food is steamed, boiled. No spices. Just salt, pepper and lemon; This is how I eat. I am not a big fanatic about the taste of food, I don’t care about the taste. Salad, I enjoy it with a little dressing. Good pan-grilled with a little olive oil or just about anything. No curry; I only eat dal, but don’t eat masala curry. However, I do eat kidney beans and cowpeas; A Punjabi cannot leave them.”
‘Repetition is everything’
According to Virat, when one is starting his fitness journey, he has to figure out various things like ‘vitamins, extra hydration and proteins’. Once one has these things sorted out, ‘repetition becomes everything’ and the right balance has to be found. However, for Virat who believes that less is more, food was the biggest challenge. “The biggest challenge I’ve found in terms of fitness is food.”
The cricketer, who follows a vegetarian diet, said, “Because everyone can go to the gym and work hard. But with food, it’s different because you have taste buds. It is related to your mind wanting something and not wanting something. You have to hang in there; This is something I realized very early on. I can eat the same thing 3 times a day for the next 6 months. I don’t have any problem.”
