Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday launched a scholarship scheme for all Sanskrit students from across the state at the Sampurnanand Sanskrit University here, a statement said.
He also announced plans to revive residential Gurukul-style Sanskrit schools across Uttar Pradesh.
According to a statement, the Chief Minister highlighted the potential of Sanskrit as a language for science and technical education and urged students to adopt it seriously.
He said, “Advocating Sanskrit is tantamount to advocating humanity” and pointed out that previous governments had neglected its education.
Addressing the gathering, Adityanath said, “Sanskrit is not just “God-speech” but also a scientific language that can be applied in modern fields like computer science and artificial intelligence.”
Underlining the government’s commitment towards its conservation and promotion, he pointed out its unique features that make it simple and technically adaptable.
Explaining the importance of the scholarship scheme, the Chief Minister said that earlier, only 300 Sanskrit students were eligible for the scholarship and even then, there were age restrictions.

The new initiative aims to extend the benefits to all eligible students. He also directed all students to open bank accounts to ensure direct and secure transfer of scholarship amount. He initiated the distribution of Scholarships worth Rs 586 lakh to 69,195 students across the state.
Highlighting the importance of Sanskrit and Indian cultural heritage, he announced plans to restart the Gurukul education system across Uttar Pradesh.
“This traditional system is the real strength of the country and can take India towards global leadership,” he said.
Gurukul institutions will get additional support, with special support being provided to those offering free accommodation and food to students. These institutions will also have autonomy to recruit qualified teachers.
