Rahi Tiwari, an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer of 2014 batch, has been appointed as the private secretary of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His appointment was confirmed on 29 March by the Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT), which was effective immediately after being approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. Its new position, which is at the level 12 of the pay matrix, will start concurrently with the existing one or until further instructions are provided.
Tiwari started his career as an under secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in November 2022 and was promoted as Deputy Secretary in January 2023. In his role, he managed the major portfolio related to security and foreign affairs before his most recent promotion.
As part of the March 29 order, Tiwari will leave his present place to handle new duties in the Prime Minister’s Office. His tenure will be aligned with the tenure of the current administration until further instructions are issued.
Nidhi tewari education and career
Nidhi Tiwari is from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, and completed his schooling there. He did his graduation in political science at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) at Varanasi, a prestigious body in India, which is known for focusing strong focus on arts, humanities and social sciences.
Tiwari worked as an Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Tax) in Varanasi before deciding to take the Civil Services Examination (CSE) in 2013. He finished 96th in the examination and was selected for the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in the 2014 batch.

He worked in the Ministry of External Affairs (Mea) in the Division of Disarmament and International Security Affairs before joining the PMO.
In the PMO, Tiwari played an important role in the management of “foreign and security” vertical under the guidance of National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval. It belongs to vertical sensitive national security issues, diplomatic relations and global security policies. Tiwari has worked on important policy areas including external affairs, nuclear power and security matters.
He also played an important role in India’s G20 chairmanship.
