“My mother was battling cancer till her last breath for me. My preparation for civil services was quite challenging for me, as my mother was undergoing cancer treatment. Pradhan said that although this was his first attempt at the UPSC Civil Services examinations, he did not attend full-time coaching classes. “I had attended test series and mentorship programs of many coaching institutes. I believe that there is no substitute for hard work, although luck is considered a factor to some extent. If I can, anyone can achieve it,” said Pradhan, who took sociology as his optional subject for the exam.
Pradhan, 22, has been academically brilliant. He scored 98.8% in class twelfth and was also the head boy of the school for the academic year 2016–17.
Odisha’s Ayushi Pradhan, who was ranked 36th, expressed happiness at being able to make a significant improvement from her all-India rank of 231 in the 2022 exam. This was his third attempt.

Another candidate Prajnanandan Giri from Odisha qualified the exam for the year 2023. He secured 24th rank in the examination.
