Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the Civil Services Examination (CSE), a nationwide competitive examination that is the gateway for candidates to start their bureaucratic journey through posts like IAS, IFS, IRS, IPS, etc.
About UPSC CSE :
CSE is considered to be one of the toughest exams in the country, which is taken by many students across the country every year. As per the latest CSE 2024 notification, the vacancies in the following groups are targeted to be filled through this exam.

UPSC CSE Exam Pattern:
The Civil Services Examination (CSE) conducted by UPSC consists of two successive stages through which eligible candidates are selected.
(i) Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective Type) for selection of candidates for the Main Examination and
(ii) Civil Services (Main) Examination (Written and Interview) for selection of candidates for various services and posts
Candidates will have to clear the preliminary examination to appear for the main examination and then the interview stage of the selection process.
UPSC CSE Eligibility Criteria:
The eligibility criteria for selection of candidates through the examination is based on the following factors:
Nationality
Age limit
(iii) Minimum educational qualification
(iv) Number of attempts
(v) Bar on applying for the examination
(vi) Medical and Physical Standards

As per the UPSC CSE 2023 data, a total of 5,92,141 candidates appeared in the preliminary exam held on May 28, 2023. 14,624 candidates qualified to appear in the written (main) exam held in September 2023 and a total of 2,855 candidates qualified for the personality test of the exam.
