Moscow. The war between Russia and Ukraine is not showing any signs of stopping, but this time Kiev’s army has given such a wound to Vladimir Putin, which he will not be able to forget soon. In fact, Volodymyr Zelensky’s Ukrainian Army attacked Moscow with at least 34 drones on Sunday, the largest drone attack on the Russian capital since the beginning of the war in 2022. The attack resulted in the destruction of three major airports in the city. Flights had to be diverted and at least one person was injured. The Defense Ministry said that Russian air defense destroyed 36 other drones in other areas of western Russia within three hours on Sunday.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Russian air defense shot down 34 drones flying toward Moscow in the Ramenskoye and Kolomensky districts of the Moscow region, as well as over the city of Domodedovo, home to one of the city’s largest airports . Rosaviatsiya, which monitors Russian aircraft, said airports have resumed operations. Ramenskoye District is about 45 km (30 mi) southeast of Moscow.
A video published online by Russian media apparently shows a house on fire in the Ramenskoye district. Reuters also confirmed the location and position of nearby buildings, the layout of sidewalks and a business sign from the video of the attack, which matched file and satellite imagery. The date was confirmed by a statement from Moscow Governor Andrei Vorobyov.
The previous largest drone attack on or near Moscow in September killed a woman in Ramenskoye – the first time a person has been killed in a Ukrainian strike near the capital since the beginning of the conflict. Similarly, in May 2023, two drones were destroyed near the Kremlin and in the same year there were several drone attacks on the Moscow City business district.
