The CBI on Thursday registered an FIR under sections of criminal conspiracy and cheating in the UGC NET exam paper leak case.
A team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probing the UGC-NET paper leak case was attacked in Bihar’s Nawada on Sunday. The CBI on Thursday registered an FIR under sections of criminal conspiracy and cheating in the UGC-NET exam paper leak case, a day after the Centre ordered the cancellation of the exam amid serious questions being raised over the “integrity” of the exam.
The Union Education Ministry on Wednesday handed over the case to the CBI for investigation.
Education Ministry Joint Secretary Govind Jaiswal had said that prima facie the government feels that there has been rigging in the examination.
Jaiswal said, “No complaint has been received but the information we have received from the agencies shows that the sanctity of the exam has been compromised. This action has been taken suo motu to protect the interests of the students.”
He said, “Nine lakh students had appeared in the UGC-NET exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on June 18. The ministry found that there was a possibility of malpractice in the exam. The ministry has decided to cancel the exam. The next date will be announced soon. The matter has been handed over to the CBI.”
In states like Bihar, the NET exam was cancelled amid allegations of question paper leak and other irregularities in the prestigious NEET exam.
