According to officials of the University Grants Commission (UGC), four Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and three Indian Institutes (IIMS) have not been nominated in a defaulter list. The UGC has sent show-causes notices to 89 institutions across India for not presenting the required anti-ringing compliance documents.
The list of 17 institutions of national importance in the list is the famous IITs, IIMs, AIIMS and NIDs.
IITs listed as defaulters are IITs IIT Kharagpur, IIT Palakkad and IIT Hyderabad. The list includes IIM Bombay, IIM Rohtak and IIM Tiruchirappalli in the list. Meyims Rae Bareli and National Institute of Design (NID) complexes have also been named in Delhi, Andhra Pradesh and Haryana.
“It has come to the notice of the UGC that these institutes have failed to present mandatory anti-ragging undertakings by the students and compliance with the institutes, despite the many advice issued by the UGC, said follow-up calls from the Anti-Ragging Helpline, and direct intervention by the Anti-Ragging Monitoring Agency,” UGC Secretary Manesh Joshi.
He said, “Following UGC regulation on ragging, 2009 is mandatory for all higher education institutions (HEIs). Not only UGC failure to violate the guidelines, but also compromises the student security, especially in the light of ragging -related crisis and increasing concerns about the enmity of the campus.”
The UGC has warned that institutions may face serious consequences in the defaulter list, such as UGC grants and return of funding, which will affect financial support and research work. If institutions do not comply with within 30 days, it has also warned of cancellation of potential de-recognition or affiliation.

Other famous names in the list include the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPR), Hyderabad; Aligarh Muslim University; Nalanda University; Ignau; And the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata.
According to anti-ragging rules, 2009, each student, with their parents or parents, will have to present an anti-ragging undertaking at the time of admission and again at the beginning of each academic year.
