President Donald Trump threatened to block the bid of the Washington commanders to build a new stadium in Columbia district, extending his quarrel with NFL franchise to change his name with Redskins.
“I can impose a ban on them that if they do not change the name back into the original ‘Washington Redskins’, and get rid of the ridiculous monkey, ‘Washington Commanders’,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social. “I will not make a deal for them to build a stadium in Washington.”
Trump has earlier complained about the decision of the football team that the old name was a slur against the original Americans to change its name. Earlier on Sunday, he said that there was a “big chlamy” to switch back.
“Our great Indian people, in large -scale numbers, want to do so,” Trump posted. “Their heritage and reputation is being systematically taken away from them. Many times they are different from three or four years ago. We are countries of passion and general knowledge. Owners, complete it !!!”
The commanders did not immediately respond to the remarks request.
Trump also criticized the Cleveland Guardian, Major League baseball team, which changed his name from Cleveland Indians in 2021.
Trump has demanded to reverse other name changes made in an attempt to be racial or culturally sensitive.
Trump Washington, what can be done about sports teams outside DC, has limited Trump. But the commanders have planned to build a new stadium on the land which has been managed by the US National Park Service. The RFK Stadium of the tract was the team home for nearly three decades till 1996.
