He also said that candidates will have to complete 50 per cent of the total (major papers of first to fifth semester examinations) credits to appear in the sixth semester.
As per the previous guideline, students have to secure a minimum of 50 percent of the total credits in a semester to get promotion to the next semester.
The decision came after a series of protests by students who failed in the semester examinations in different parts of the state.
According to estimates, this step will benefit about 8000 students.
