New Delhi. Today, SUVs dominate the Indian automobile sector. The demand for SUVs has increased rapidly in every segment from entry to premium level. At present, SUVs with 1200cc engine capacity have arrived and there is a competition to buy them in the market. These SUVs of smaller size than 4-meter are taxed less and hence their price is also lower. Maruti Suzuki is also selling Brezza in this segment. Maruti Brezza is getting a lot of love from the customers and its monthly sales are around 15,000 units. Maruti Brezza gets a lot of love due to its fuel efficient engine and good service network of the brand. However, there is also an SUV present in this segment which has left Brezza behind in many aspects including sales.
The car we are talking about here is none other than Tata Motors’ Nexon SUV. This compact SUV has created a stir this year with its updated design. Whereas earlier Nexon had to struggle for even 8-10 thousand customers, now its sales have crossed 17 thousand units. In the last few months, Tata Nexon has emerged as the biggest challenge for Brezza. In the last month i.e. January 2024, sales of Nexon stood at 17,182 units with an increase of 10 percent. Talking about Brezza, its sales increased by 7% to 15,303 units in January 2024 as compared to January 2023.
The engine is stronger than Brezza
Talking about Maruti Brezza, the company offers it in 1.5-litre, K15 C petrol engine. This engine generates peak power of 103 bhp and maximum torque of 137 Nm. Whereas in CNG mode it generates power of 88 BHP. In terms of power, Tata Nexon gives much better performance than Brezza. In Nexon, the company offers 1.2 liter turbo petrol engine which generates power of 120 bhp and torque of 170 Nm. There is also an option of 1.5-litre diesel engine which generates power of 115 bhp and torque of 260 Nm. Both SUVs have 4 cylinder engines.

Heavier than Brezza but priced lower
Tata Nexon is also quite popular for its strong build quality. This car has been given a 5-star safety rating for its strength in the Global NCAP crash test. Talking about Brezza, its latest generation model has not been crash tested yet. If we talk about curb weight, the weight of Tata Nexon is 1,346 Kg, while the weight of Maruti Brezza is 1,130 Kg, i.e. Nexon is 216 Kg heavier than Brezza.
If we look at the price, the price of Tata Nexon starts from Rs 8.15 lakh and goes up to Rs 15.60 lakh (ex-showroom). Whereas, the price of Maruti Brezza starts from Rs 8.34 lakh and goes up to Rs 14.14 lakh. If you buy the base model of Nexon, then you will get this SUV 20 thousand rupees cheaper.
