Jal Mahal: There are many such historical buildings in India, which are very special and unique. There are many such historical buildings in Rajasthan, which are thousands of years old. These buildings are also called the pride and pride of India. One such heritage building is Jal Mahal. It has been 222 years since it was built but it still stands with the same grandeur as before. Jal Mahal is known by many names like Underwater Palace, Floating Palace or Water Palace. It is considered to be the finest example of Rajput and Mughal architecture.
Situated amidst the Aravalli Hills, Jal Mahal is also known as the ‘Eye Ball’ due to its location in the middle of Mansagar Lake. Apart from this, it was also known as Romantic Palace. The king used to use this palace to spend special time with his queen. Apart from this, this palace was also used during royal festivals. In the 16th century, due to severe drought before the construction of this palace, Man Singh, the ruler of Amer, decided to build a dam to collect the water wasted on the river of Amer and Amgarh and the water in the mountains could be collected and stored. Put. In this way Mansagar Lake was formed. Spread over 382 acres, this lake is surrounded on three sides by the Aravalli hills in the north, west and east.
The beauty of this lake was a center of attraction for the kings of that time and the kings often used to come here by boats. Raja Sawai Jai Singh decided to build a palace in the middle of the lake so that he could live there. Situated in the middle of Mansagar Lake, 4 km north on Jaipur-Amer Road, this palace was built by Rajput king Sawai Jai Singh in 1799 AD. The palace was originally built in 1699. It has been renovated several times. Rajput style boats were used in its construction.
The palace is a two-storey and square building with arches, turrets, chhatris and staircases similar to medieval palaces. Its upper storey has turreted roofs at the four corners and the central arch rests on marble pillars.
Red sandstone was used in the construction of Jal Mahal. On the top of the palace there is a large rectangular chhatri made in Bengali style. The most special thing about this five-storey Jal Mahal is that only one of its floors is visible above the water, whereas after the construction of Man Sagar Lake, the remaining four floors have been submerged in water. This is why there is no heat in it. Its four floors are underwater and only the top of the palace is visible. It seems that the palace is floating on the water of the lake. A beautiful view of the mountains and the lake can be seen from this palace. This palace looks very beautiful especially in the moonlight night in the water of the lake. A wonderful view of Man Sagar Lake and Nahargarh is visible from Jal Mahal.
More than 1 lakh trees have been planted in the nursery of Jal Mahal, which are looked after day and night and about 100 gardeners are engaged in taking care of the trees and plants. This nursery is the highest tree nursery of Rajasthan. Aravali has thousands of species of plants, ornamental plants and shrubs. 150 year old trees have been given new life by transplanting them. Every year beautiful plants like dates, China palm and bougainvillea are planted here. More than one lakh trees have been planted in the nursery of this Jal Mahal, which a large number of people come to see.
