The fact that the film was completely fictional is obvious, but what is not is that the city is actually a thriving hub of culture and hustle and bustle. Gamcheon Culture Village
Arrive early and start your day by seeing the statue of the Little Prince and the Fox, followed by a visit to Gamne Café for coffee. Walk up to the Sky Garden Observatory before browsing the souvenir shops. After tteokbokki for lunch from a street stall, visit Gamcheon Little Museum. Have an Instagram photo shoot in front of the street’s graffiti and pastel houses. End the day by enjoying the sunset from the view of the stairs.
Haedong Yeonggungsa Temple
To reach the temple gate, take the market road. The 12 zodiac statues are ideal for Instagram before crossing the stone bridge to the main temple. Pray in the main Buddha Hall and then visit the Hesu Gwanem Daebul or Sea Goddess Statue. If you start your day early, you can even watch the sun rise over the ocean from the rooftop point. Head to the markets for some delicious local brekkie.
Haeundae Blueline Park
As you enjoy the coastal views along Dalmaji Hill, quickly board the Haende Sky Capsule. Visit the Cheongsapo Station lighthouse and then enjoy some coffee at Cheongsapo Café Street. Ride the beach train to Songjeong Station and stroll along the beach boardwalk before heading to the beach for lunch.
Dakbatgol Mural Village
If you’re one of those people who uploads Instagram Stories then this is going to be a fever dream! Get a breath of inspiration with ‘Dream’ themed walls in Mural-Alley Zone 1. Make a wish on the Mosaic Wish Stairs (there are plenty of wishes to be made while wandering along its 192 steps). Ride or watch the mini monorail cable car, then enjoy coffee hour at the Gakbatgol Book Café overlooking the hill. The upcoming area features murals depicting the themes of ‘Hope’, ‘Family’ and ‘Freedom’. Admire the city’s panoramic skyline from the viewpoint of the Buksan-ri Public Parking elevator. Enjoy a hearty, local lunch followed by some quick shopping.
Seomyeon District and Jeonpo Cafe Street
Start the day by exploring the Seomyeon Underground Shopping Center. Decompress with a stroll down Jompo Café Street and some grub. There is plenty of street exploring to do here with regular replenishment. Café Wavon is a popular choice for lunch, followed by a stroll through the graffiti alleys and boutique shops. The sweets here are highly recommended, as are several shopping tours.
