Bangkok: A bus carrying students and teachers caught fire on Tuesday in a suburban area of Thailand’s capital Bangkok. Due to this fire incident, 25 children traveling in the vehicle are feared dead. Officials and rescue workers gave this information.
Thailand’s Transport Minister Suria Jungrungruengkit told reporters at the scene that the bus, carrying 44 children and teachers, was headed from central Utthai Thani province to Bangkok’s Ayutthaya for a school trip when it collided in the capital’s northern suburb of Pathum Thani. A bus caught fire in the afternoon in the province.
Home Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said officials could not yet confirm the death toll because they had not completed investigating the scene. He said that based on the number of survivors, 25 people are feared dead.
They also said that the bus was still so hot that they could not get inside safely. In the video of this incident that has surfaced on social media, it is seen that the bus is burning and a cloud of black smoke is coming out of it.
The age of the students and other details regarding this incident are not known. A rescue worker present at the spot told Suriya that the fire was probably caused by a tire burst on the bus and then hitting a road barrier. Rescue group ‘Hongsakul Khlong Luang 21’ said on social media platform ‘Facebook’ that at least ten bodies have been recovered from the bus.
