Thomas Durkasen, a German affected in China, turned into five years. Check her Instagram for evidence.
His early photos show heavy food: Big Breakfast, Cake and Bacon Sandwich. Now, he looks more active. He performs kickboxing, kayaking and swimming. He said that the change had started during the Kovid -19 epidemic.
At the age of 36, he realized that his lifestyle was unwell. He had chest pain, joint issues and fatty liver. Staying at home during epidemic, he got time to learn from free online resources.
Durkasen stopped crash dieting and focused on changing his entire lifestyle. Some tips worked for him while others did not.
Durkasen moved to China in 2013 to study in Shanghai and settled there in 2016. He calls it the best decision of his life. Known as online “AFU” or “Lucky Forest”, he gained fame by posting funny videos in Mandarin about his life in China.
His video found millions of scenes, and people started calling him informal German Ambassador to China.
Thomas spoke to South China Morning Post about his lifetime weight issues. He grew up in a large German family, where food was about taste. He was overweight than the younger age and tried many diets, but he always gained weight.
In his heaviest, his weight was about 140 kg. His weight made daily life difficult. Walking tired, and he needed tailor clothes in China.
People often made fun of him or gave unwanted advice. The journey was also difficult. He had to plan every outfit already as regular size clothes were never available to him.
In 2020, during the epidemic, Durkasen decided to focus on his health and weight loss. He found a Golden Labrador named Einstein, who became his daily running companion.
Durkasen started going to the gym, three times and training to cardio twice a week. He walks anywhere within 5 km because he walks on the “best exercise”. He did not follow any craze diet or weight loss injection. He focused on long -term results.
He said, “French fries or a hamburger would not change long -term results anymore, so the emotion was very different. It was like raising a child: when you do not ask a child to do nothing, it wants to do more,” he told SCMP.
Ancient fasting did not work
The intermittent fasting did not work for him, so he turned into three or four small food daily. He allowed himself to be treated like a burger sometimes but kept 80% of his food healthy.
Whatever Durkasen had learned from his mother, then in the large part, whatever he liked, he used to eat. He now sees food as fuel, not entertainment.
Social media affects simple, healthy items cooks at home and avoids junk. He did not use weight loss drugs like GLP-1.
Durkasen likes that English comedian James Cordon once said: Hunger is not always a cause for people to eat. Many eat for stress, boredom or comfort. They believe that hunger control will not solve mental or emotional problems.
Thomas Durkasen took five years to lose 60 kg. Now his weight is 83 kg.
