End-to-end encryption will start in Zoho’s Arattai app from the night of November 18. Users are required to install the new app version. After this the old chats will shift in three days. Know why end-to-end encryption is important for chatting.
Arattai app has many features and now end-to-end encryption is coming.A major security feature has now been added to the Arattai app, which was discussed as the Indian alternative to WhatsApp. Zoho Corporation co-founder Sridhar Vembu has announced that End-to-End Encryption (E2EE) will start in the app from the night of November 18. For this, all users have been advised to update their app immediately.
Vembu told X (formerly Twitter) that after the update, users will be sent to a new encrypted chat session. Those who have the older version will be able to use the old chat sessions for three days. Vembu has described this as a ‘transition period’.
Once the three days are over, all chats will automatically shift to the new end-to-end encrypted session and the old chat session will be archived.
This change is necessary because Arattai did not have E2EE at the time of launch, due to which the app faced criticism regarding security. Now the company is taking big steps towards making it completely safe.
At present, end-to-end encryption is being introduced in Arattai only for one-to-one chat. Vembu said that E2EE for group chats will be released in a few weeks. Apart from this, the company is also working on many new ‘cool features’, which will be announced after the transition is completed.
Vembu’s answer to the decline in users
Interestingly, Vembu also responded to the sharp decline in the app’s active users. Recently Arattai was out of the top 100 apps on Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
Vembu says that this is absolutely normal. He said, ‘Early discussion never leads to long-term success. The real difference comes from the longevity and reliable performance of the app.
Arattai gained initial popularity after government ministers appealed to promote ‘indigenous’ apps. But due to lack of E2EE the company also had to face criticism. Now this update answers many questions and puts the app in line with platforms like WhatsApp.
