Researchers at New Delhi, July 10 (PTI) have documented a completely autonomous surgery performed by a robot on a gall bladder made of human tissue with 100 percent accuracy, stating that they have been identified a milestone to deploy these systems in a clinical setting.
In a paper published in the magazine ‘Science Robotics’ led by researchers at the University of Johns Hopkins in the US, the robot ‘SRT-H’ was trained on the video of surgeons working on dead pigs.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) operated by the algorithm, which also responded to the Chatgpt function, ‘surgical robot transformer-danukram’, or SRT-H, and also learned from the team from voice command while performing the operation-he said that he said.
Axle Cryger, author and medical robotist at the University of Johns Hopkins, said, “This advancement takes us from robots that can execute specific surgical functions to robots that actually understand surgical processes.”
“This is an important difference that brings us quite close to clinically viable autonomous surgical systems that can work in dirty, unexpected reality of real patient care,” Crieger said.
The team had previously documented a laparoscopic surgery performed by a robot on a pig – the first autonomous man on a living animal, he said.
However, the robot required a tissue that was specifically marked for surgical intervention, worked in a highly controlled environment and followed a rigid, predetermined surgical plan.
The SRT-H robot actually performs surgery, in real time for personal physical features, deciding on fly and self-realizing, when things do not go as expected, the researchers said.
He wrote, “We propose a hierarchical structure for the performance of skillful, long-term surgical stages.
“Our method achieves 100 percent success rate in eight separate pre -vivo gallbladars, while operating completely autonomous without human intervention.”
The work is “a milestone towards the clinical deployment of autonomous surgical systems,” he wrote.
He said that when the robot took longer to operate than the human surgeon, the results were comparable to an expert surgeon.
“The work represents a major jump from pre -efforts as a former postdoctoral researcher at the University of Johns Hopkins, because it deal with some fundamental obstacles to deploy autonomous surgical robots in the real world.”
“Our work suggests that the AI model can be made sufficiently reliable for surgical autonomy-something that was felt once away, but now the protesting is viable,” Kim said.
