This increase will be especially applicable to those chips which are made on less than 5 nm technology. This may mean that existing iPhone models will become more expensive to manufacture.
For example, Apple’s latest A19 Pro chip is used in the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, while the standard version uses an A19 SoC. At the same time, the iPhone 16 series has chipsets of A18 family.
Increase may be 8-10 percent
These prices may go up by 8 to 10 percent from next year. Earlier also there was news that Apple’s next A20 chip will be made on 2nm process, which will be for iPhone 18. This chip will be better in performance and battery life, but will be at least 50 percent more expensive than the 3nm process. The reason is that the cost of new technology setup is very high and the production is also low in the beginning.
According to a report, the cost of making A18 chip costs Apple 45 dollars (about Rs 3,990). The complete hardware cost of iPhone 17 is around $416 (Rs 36,900), but it is sold in stores for $799 (Rs 71,000). If chip prices increase, total material costs will increase and Apple’s earnings may decrease. If Apple does not reduce its earnings then the phone may become expensive.
