Ranveer Singh and Sara Arjun, who have an age difference of 20 years, raised eyebrows when they were announced as the lead actors of Dhurandhar. Now speaking to Free Press Journal, the film’s casting director Mukesh Chhabra has revealed about casting Sara opposite Ranveer.

Mukesh said that the age gap was necessary in the film. He said, “I was given very clear information. The story is that he is trying to trap her. So, we knew we wanted a young girl who was 20-21 years old. And when Part 2 comes, whoever is talking about the age difference will get all the answers.”
He said that when he read about the actors’ ages, he was “laughing.” He said, “It’s not that we don’t have good actors in the 26-27 year age group; we have good actors. But it (age difference) was necessary in the film. You can’t explain all that to people. When I was reading about the age difference, I was laughing. As per the synopsis of the film, it is perfect.” Sara was born on 18 June 2005 and Ranveer was born on 6 July 1985.

Dhurandhar is the story of an Indian spy named Hamza, who infiltrates Pakistan to join the gang of dacoit Rehman. The film is inspired by real-life events ranging from the 2001 Parliament attack and the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks, providing the audience with an insight into the India-Pakistan conflict.
Apart from Ranveer and Sara, the film also stars Akshay Khanna, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt and Rakesh Bedi in lead roles. The second part of the film is set to be released in theaters on March 19 next year.
