Asthma is a chronic respiratory state that affects about 300 million people worldwide, shows how widespread it is. But despite the prevalence, there are many misconceptions around asthma. It is important for people to be well informed to debrive these myths, taking out any stigma which can be associated with it.

Myths

Myth 1: Asthma is a cureable disease that will cure after a certain period of treatment
fact:
- Asthma is a family disease with a strong genetic tendency. It runs in more than generations.
- The disease like any other genetic disorder may not be completely cured.
- However it can be controlled to an extent with drugs where it does not obstruct daily life activities.
Myth 2: Asthma is a life-threatening disease
fact:
- Asthma is usually a disorder affecting 6% adults and 9% of children globally. Work in children can go up to 20%.
- The disease is present in a miller form, which can be controlled with the right drugs.
- Only 4% of total asthma actually develop a severe form of the disease, which is difficult to control and can affect the quality of life.
Myth 3: Patients get accustomed to inhalers given to the treatment of asthma.
fact:
- Medications for asthma treatment are given through various devices through the inhalational passage. No drug has any addiction ability.
- Patients have reservation about using inhalers or other inhalational equipment on a daily basis for life, which is the wrong idea.
- To control the symptoms of breath and control the symptoms of wheezing, according to the needs of a individual patient with a goal, it does not affect the quality of life.
- Some patients require these drugs, which may be required for a few months, other people, and severe form of the disease for long periods.
Myth 4: Asthma is a communicable disease, and one can spread it in a close contact.
fact:
- Asthma is a non-communicable disease.
- It cannot be spread from a person to a person in a community.
Myth 5: Asthma is a childhood disease and cannot be present in adults.
fact:
- Although asthma is usually seen in children, which resolves by adolescence, some children may continue symptoms in adulthood.
- Some patients may have asthma symptoms during childhood, which are solved for a few years, but they are always at risk of recurrence of symptoms.
- Some patients have no symptoms of asthma when they are small, but can develop symptoms later in life, especially after 40 years. It is usually seen in women and is known as adult-heritage asthma.
Management of asthma

- Place a diary to record any foods that can cause allergic reactions, making it easier to avoid them in the future.
- Always wear a mask while leaving the house to prevent trigger from environmental allergies.
- Get into a habit of regular exercise, including some exercises focused on lungs and breathing.
- Healthy food rich in antioxidants and immune boosters, such as green leafy vegetables.
