Its name is Alfred which can cause havoc on the coast by late Friday night or Saturday morning. This cyclone is of class one, which is equal to a tropical storm in the Atlantic Ocean. This is moving towards Brisbane, where 25 lakh people live. According to local time, the cyclone was about 195 km east of Alfred Brisbane till Friday morning and it was moving west at a speed of 95 km per hour. According to Australia’s Meteorological Bureau, the cyclone has already created dangerous waves in the areas of the coast. The Gold Coast saw a record height of 12.3 meters.

People have been warned about not going to the coastal areas. The Gold Coast City Council has warned to impose a fine of $ 10,000 (8.71 lakh rupees) for those who go near rocks and dangerous water. In North New South Wales (NSW), about 35,000 houses and businesses lost power after strong winds and heavy rains. There is also a threat of floods in rivers. NSW State Emergency Service said that they have received more than 1,800 calls on Thursday. At least three flood rescue operations were carried out.

Warning of heavy rain
