Zelia is the fifth major storm of this season and reached 12:30 pm (local time) at 12:30 pm east of Port Handeland as category 5. However, by 7 pm, this category was downgrade in the storm, in which winds were moving at a speed of 93 mph.

This tropical storm, the tropical cyclone passed through the coast of Western Australia around noon on Friday. This cyclone passed by Dey Gray, a small town in Pilbara region. Before the weakening of the storm, the winds in the day gray lasted at a speed of 220 kmph and received more than 500 mm of rain.

Officials declared it a pre-pronounced cyclone on Saturday morning, but warned that heavy rains could continue, which may cause sudden floods.

Angus Hines of Meteorological Bureau of Bureau of Meteorological (BOM) said that there have been record rains in parts of Pilbara coast. He told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, “The flood will have a serious impact for the next few days and due to the continuation of cleanliness, big roads are likely to be closed.”

Strong winds dropped trees throughout the region, but no major damage was reported till Saturday morning. Floods have been warned of Floods in Forteskue River, Onselo Coast, Ashbetun River, Gascoin River and Sandy Desert Catchment area.

According to the news agency Xinhua, some towns have been isolated due to roads being cut. The Hines said that the roads are expected to close as the water level rises.

The Fire and Emergency Services Department of Western Australia has asked Pilbara residents to be vigilant near the damaged buildings, flood water and fallen electric wires and trees. Additional emergency services have started arriving at Port Handeland Airport, and commercial flights are expected to resume on Sunday.
