New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate 3 Param Rudra supercomputing systems to the country today. He gave information about this by tweeting from his X account. The Prime Minister wrote on his account, “Promoting tech innovation. Today at around 5:30 pm, through video conferencing, I will launch 3 Param Rudra supercomputing systems and a high performance computing system for environment and climate. I especially appeal to my young colleagues to join this program.”
Most people do not know much about supercomputers. In simple terms, supercomputers are extremely fast and powerful, which can complete complex calculations in minutes, while normal computers can take 500 years to do the same work. For example, a supercomputer can process such a large amount of data simultaneously, which an ordinary computer cannot even imagine. Supercomputers are used in scientific and research work, such as studying astronomical phenomena, predicting climate change, and complex physical research.

Where will they be used?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate three new supercomputers ‘Param Rudra’ to the country at a cost of Rs 130 crore. These supercomputers will be installed in Pune, Delhi and Kolkata. In Pune, it will be used for the Giant Meter Radio Telescope (GMRT), which will discover and study astronomical events. At the Inter University Accelerator Center (IUAC) in Delhi, it will be used for research in material science and nuclear physics.
The first supercomputer
India’s first supercomputer was ‘Param 8000’, which was developed in 1991 at C-DAC Pune. Since then, India has come a long way in the field of supercomputing. Today India has many advanced supercomputers, such as ‘Param Shivay’, ‘Param Shakti’ and ‘Param Anant’, which are proving helpful in various research works.
Where do we stand in the world?
As far as global supercomputing is concerned, China, America and Japan are ahead in this field. India also has 11 supercomputers, which are included in the list of top 500 supercomputers, while neighboring country Pakistan is not in this list. Such supercomputers play an important role in science, technical research, and national development. India is further strengthening its scientific capabilities by using them.
