Recently, Director Anil Sharma revealed that the story of ‘Gadar’ was understood to him when he was working on another film with two veterans, which could never be made unfortunately. In an exclusive conversation with AyraNews24x7 Showsha, he said that he wanted to work with Dilip Kumar and Dharmendra, but the film could never go on the floor.
Anil Sharma was making a film named Kashmir
He said, ‘Dilip Kumar was a person with whom I really wanted to work, but could not do it. He is a regret of my life. Before Gadar, I was working on another film, named Kashmir. I spoke to both Dilip Saheb and Dharam ji and he had said yes to do the film.
How did you get the story of the film ‘Gadar’?
Anil Sharma says, ‘I was looking for a story for a subplot of that film that revolves around a Pakistani girl and a Kashmiri boy. And then I got the story of Gadar. While finding that subplot, I got the story of Gadar. So I thought that I first focus on Gadar and I will make Kashmir later. She never became, but became a gather.
Holded Dilip Kumar-Dharmendra’s film
Anil Sharma was so impressed by the story of ‘Gadar’ that he put the Kashmir movie on hold for some time. He said, ‘When that story came to me, I was trembled. I knew that it would become India’s biggest hit film. I was so sure about the story of Gadar that I decided to put Kashmir on hold. The worm of my mind was so bitten to me that I said that nothing will be made now, the first will be made. Life remained sad that I could not work with Dilip Saheb.
Dilip Kumar did Motivate
Anil Sharma also told that when he told Dilip Kumar that he was earlier making ‘Gadar’ film, what was his reaction. He said, ‘When I told him about it, he had no problem. What difference did they make? Dilip Kumar is Dilip Kumar. If a film is not made, then it does not matter to them. He is older than any film and at that time he was already in line with many films. But he really encouraged me to make me Gadar. He patted me on the back and said- Laye, whatever you want, you should do the same.
