The Assam State School Education Board (Asseb) canceled the ongoing Higher Secondary (HS) first year examination, 2025, which was originally scheduled from 24 March to 29 March. Action was taken due to the report of question paper leak and violation of protocol.
Higher Secondary First Year or Class 11 The exam started from March 6 and was scheduled to continue till 29 March.
Minister of Education Education Said that all the examinations of Assam State Board of Class 11 were canceled from March 24 to March 29.
The official order shared by the news agency ANI said, “… According to the decision to be held in the board meeting to be held on 24/03/2025, all the concerned will be carried forward.”
Paper leakage
Earlier, Higher Secondary First Year Mathematics Asseb’s prescribed paper was leaked on March 21. News agency PTI said it forced the officials to cancel the examinations and file a police complaint.
“Due to the report of question paper leaks and protocol violations, the remaining subjects of HS First year exam 2025 (prescribed from 24-29 March) was canceled, “Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said in a position on X.
Sharing the official order by Asseb, he said that further action regarding the new program of examinations will be decided in the board meeting on Monday.
Action against school
In another post, the minister said that the mathematics paper was leaked after 18 schools, in which the security seal was broken a day before the scheduled examination across the state including three government institutions.
“Assam state Board of School Education (Asb) The minister said that to break the seal of class 11 mathematics question papers, the affiliation of 15 private schools has been suspended in 10 districts, which has led to a leakage.
“The state government will also take action in a similar way to violate the rules against three other schools,” he said.
“The FIR is being lodged, and these schools are stopped from accepting class XI students for 2025-26,” he said.
Police complaint will be filed and these schools have been stopped from accepting Class 11 students For 2025–26 academic year, Pegu said.
According to the Asseb order issued by the Controller of Examinations (In-Charges), Ranjan Kumar Das, all inspectors of the lead colleges and all inspectors of the principals got back the seal packets of the mathematics question paper.
“… Its reports have seen that some institutions opened the seal packets of the question paper on 20/03/2025, while the exam was scheduled to be held in the second session of 21/03/2025.
“… it is believed that the leakage of question papers in the rest of the examination cannot be dismissed, as all the question papers of the remaining subjects are in the custody of each institution of Assam, where the examination is being conducted,” said this.
Therefore, from 24 March to 29 March, all the remaining subjects of HS first year examination have been canceled, Das said in the order.
Das told PTI that an FIR has been lodged at the CID headquarters of Guwahati, while 18 other cases will be filed against educational institutions at the concerned police stations.
He said, “Of the 18 centers, we believe that not all have leaked the papers. Perhaps only one or two centers have leaked the papers and they have gone viral on social media. Criminals will be found after a detailed investigation by the police.”
Last week, the class 9 English annual examination in Barpeta district of Assam was canceled after the question paper was leaked on social media.
