Euro NCAP recently crash tested the Tesla Model Y, in which the electric SUV got full 5 stars. The crash testing organization evaluates vehicles in four main areas: adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, vulnerable road user protection, and safety assist technology, with more stars indicating better performance. The program assigns a star rating from one to five to help consumers compare vehicle safety, with five stars being the highest score.
Tesla Model Y has recently become available for sale in the Indian market at a starting price of Rs. 59.89 lakh ex-showroom. At this price, it will have to compete with the Kia EV6, MG Cyberster, Mini Countryman Electric, BYD Celiani 7 and Mercedes-Benz EQA.

7 airbags
Most cars now come with six airbags as standard. However, the Model Y takes it a step further with a seventh airbag that sits between the two front seats. These additional airbags create a barrier between the front occupants and an additional cushion of protection.
Strong structural protection and collapse zones
The Tesla Model Y has strong structural safety due to its rigid body, large front and rear crumple zones and low center of gravity from the battery pack, which also reduces rollover risk. Crumple zones and structure are in place to absorb most of the impact and keep the cabin intact.

electronic security suite
The Model Y is equipped with traction control, rollover mitigation and multi-collision braking. The traction control system continuously monitors the speed of both front and rear wheels. In a situation when the Model Y experiences loss of traction, the system reduces wheel spin by controlling brake pressure and motor power. Then there is roll-over mitigation which prevents vehicles from overturning by using sensors to monitor vehicle stability and intervene if a rollover is imminent. It works by applying and decelerating the individual wheel brakes. Finally, there is Multi-Collision Brake (MCB) which automatically applies the vehicle’s brakes after the initial collision to prevent or reduce the severity of subsequent impacts.
360-degree camera
360 camera systems in cars use multiple cameras to provide an uninterrupted, top-down “bird’s-eye” view of the vehicle’s surroundings, helping drivers avoid parking, maneuvering, and blind spots.
Autopilot/ADAS
The autopilot of Tesla Model Y comes with many features. The first is Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB). If the driver does not react in time, it applies brakes to prevent or reduce the severity of a frontal collision. Then there’s blind-spot monitoring that warns about vehicles that may not be visible to the driver. The Tesla Model Y also comes with collision warning for unexpected obstacles on the road. The brand also offers Lane Assist, which helps the driver keep the car within the lane markings.
