Mexico City: An aircraft hijack attempt on Thursday failed in the Central American country Belize. A former US military personnel tried to hijack a small passenger aircraft on the strength of a knife, injuring three passengers. According to the police, the hijacker was shot dead by a licensed weapon passenger. According to the Belize police, the hijacker has been identified as American citizen Akinayela Taylor (49). He hijacked a tropic air balliz aircraft, with 14 passengers and two crew members. Belize Police Commissioner Chester Williams said that Taylor attacked the aircraft going to San Pedro with a knife, injuring two passengers and a pilot.
The passenger who shot Taylor had a license to keep the gun and later handed over the gun to the police. He told that Taylor demanded that he be taken out of the country. Tropic Air Belize CEO Maximilian Grif appreciated the bravery of the pilot and described it as ‘heroic’. He said, ‘Our pilots are given difficult training to deal with any situation. We are providing all possible help to the injured passengers.
