Kuala Lumpur. Malaysian billionaire Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar has bought a special edition ‘Gold 1’ car number plate for 1.5 million Malaysian Ringgit ($314,700). This is the highest amount ever paid for a number plate there. According to a media report, the money received from this bid will be given to the Federal Government of Malaysia. The ‘Gold’ number plate series was introduced to commemorate the 50th anniversary or Golden Jubilee of the Malaysian Federal Territories. Bidding for the ‘Gold’ number series ran from 1 to 5 February. In which the starting bid for single number plates was set at 20,000 Malaysian Ringgit ($4,172).
Sultan Ibrahim’s latest bid not only achieved the coveted number plate but also left his previous record behind. In June 2023, he successfully bid 1.2 million Malaysian ringgit ($250,300) for the coveted ‘FF1’ number plate. Malaysia’s new king, known for his passion for luxury and penchant for unique vehicles, has invested his wealth in vintage cars, motorcycles, private jets and exotic animals, Business Insider reports.

In contrast to the more discreet luxury pursued by the British royal family, Sultan Ibrahim often showcases his large collection of Ferraris and motorcycles on social media platforms. According to Bloomberg estimates, the combined wealth of the king and his family is about $5.7 billion. Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar is sitting on the throne of Malaysia at the age of 65. It is said that his total wealth is around Rs 500 billion ($5.7 Billion) and his economic empire is not limited to the borders of his country.
